Femmes sauvages
In June 2018 the group Femmes Sauvageswas born, with Julia Mann (piano), Angela Babuin (dance and performance) and Gabriela Baldoni (visuals and interactive multimedia technology). Meetings begun in the artists' studios with the exploration of different forms of interaction between the three disciplines. From February to November 2019 they carried out a production residency at the French Alliance of Buenos Aires that provided rehearsal space in their auditorium and the resources and technical staff for the creation of a work that wasfinally shown in November 2019, in Noviembre Digital festival.
Femmes Sauvages creates inter-artistic scenic works. Interactive multimedia art offers new tools and expands the field of possibilities for each discipline. The technology used for capturing movement and sound allows them to generate an organic language in which music, dance and image can create a dialogue, react to each other, live. The different arts are "interActivated" here in a total performative gesture.
The essential principle of the work is based on the exploration of an inter-artistic zone. The eviction of aesthetic categorizations, the dissolution of artistic genres, breaking with traditional conventions are the premises of the group's creative style. Technological mediation expands the possibilities of each artist, allows the liberation of new modes of expression and the expansion of a renewed sensitivity.
Femmes Sauvages are three artists who play at sharing a stage space where roles intermingle. Gestures and sounds activate musical and visual effects. The disciplines are inter-activated in a singular language and an organic counterpoint between piano, electronic sounds, video projections, generative visuals and movements. Each artistic gesture - be it kinetic, musical or visual - is in turn cause and effect of the events on stage. The timeline of the work is flexible. The dramatic changes that mark it fluctuate from one performance to the next, responding to the spontaneity of the live composition.
The interdisciplinary cross-over is the way of expression of the poetic that springs up and arises from deep artistic natures. The show is a contemporary ritual in which Femmes Sauvages manifests the right to express the intimate, the intuitive, the repressed. It is the spokesperson for women who claim their emancipation from the common female stereotypes forged by the culture of the woman-object.
Creation is the place where the instinctual mass is released and the wild spirit is found again, synonymous here with freedom. Inspired by ancestral tales, wisdoms from Western tradition and childhood stories, the work processes the great female archetypes in a contemporary tone: the young woman, the mother, the witch, or the destiny weaver spider. The scenes come and go in a plot made of flashes, memories, desires and sensitive encounters. Navigating through the arcana of the deep being, searching for the path that leads to the "river under the river", they have silent colors that turn to vermilion, suspended, distorted times and accelerated rhythms that are breathtaking.
